Final Days of 2015 Thanksgiving Countdown

When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that He’s done for me, my soul cries out Halleluia. Thank you Lord for keeping me.

When it seemed like there was more against me than for me, you kept me. Thank you Lord.

When my knees buckled and I had to keep going anyhow, you kept me. Thank you Jesus.

When people demands & expectations exceeded my internal supply and I wanted to scream, you kept me and I thank you Lord.

When distractions blinded my view and I could barely see you, you kept me and I thank you. O I thank you.

When I couldn’t see your provision and had to faith my way through the day, you kept me and I thank you Lord.

When my income completely disappeared and I did not know where the next meal was coming from, you kept me and I thank you.

When my get up and go got up and went, you kept me and I thank you.

When unbelief and doubt crouched at my door, you kept me and I thank you.

When my heart felt like it was breaking and the pressure became too much, you kept me and I thank you Lord.

When I think of your goodness in 2015 and how you kept me, my Lord….I thank you.

(My short list, feel free to share and post yours)

From thought to burden to revelation light

When a nagging thought becomes a burden that weighs you down and robs you of your peace, you need a Jesus fix. In effect, you need to bring that thought captive to the obedience of Christ as described in 2 Corinthians 10:5. You can’t handle it. He can. Take it to the Lord and if it breaks out and pops up again keep taking it to the Lord until it ceases to be a weight. By faith begin to thank the Lord for taking that thought and giving you His peace. In due season, the Lord will shine His revelation light in that area and bless you with His point of view. Receive that God thought and you will not be the same! (just one of those things that make you want to say “bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name.”) Psalm 103:1

Tuesday's Soul Shaping Gleaning

"God, I just want to do what you put me on earth to do." (from Rick Warren's 9-29-2015 devotional entitled 'Eternity Should Shape Your Goals')

I read this line and was literally stopped in my tracks this morning. I was up and in a seeking state of mind but realized i was talking to myself moreso than seeking the wisdom of God. This wasn't the first time either and it came to me that I was developing the habit of leaning to my own understanding and failing to properly acknowledge, even overriding that still small voice that has been leading me for so many years.

When I put Pastor Warren's life changing declaration with the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6, my heart leaped and i felt the pressure of a flood behind my eyelids.

"I am so sorry, Lord," I said to the One who never ever gives up on me and then I thought, Lord, your faithfulness is beyond extraordinary. Here i am trying to hear me, (LOL) and you still manage to get a word in---now that's love.

Then i heard a line or two from that Bill Withers classic--"Lean on me when you're not strong. I'll be your friend; I'll help you carry on.."

Wow...the paper's wet now.

I got the message.

Thank you Lord.

You lead. I'll follow.

Thanks for keeping it simple.

My Soul is a War Zone!

Yes, the battle is in the mind but if you zoom out and view the bigger picture you will discover that our entire soul (thoughts, feelings and choices) is a war zone.

Jesus uses the word belly to refer to the soul in John 7:38. What a brilliant way to make His point plain. How many times have you said, “If only I had gone with my gut (belly)?”

Friends, know that those gut feelings are the Spirit of the Lord directing your path. In John 7:38 we read,

In other words when we believe, (i.e. put our trust and confidence in Jesus) we are blessed with a constant flow of His guidance. When we believe and then go another way, we might as well be swimming upstream.

Here’s a poignant example from my book—“The Way of The Holy Spirit” to shed one final beam of light on this subject.

“Has anybody else ever been in line at the supermarket, looked over at the dish detergent less than ten feet away and ignored the feeling that you should get out of line and grab a bottle? That was a long question, but I want to make an important point here. You see, that look back and attention focused on the dish detergent, even for a fleeting moment, was a communication from the Holy Spirit. He drew my eyes to the detergent and in my gut impressed me with a clear 'you need that'. It was a fleeting thought but I know that I know it was Him. I overrode that impression and of course you know what happened. I got home and sure enough there was one greasy fish pot that needed washing and less than a pin head of detergent left…”

Do You Want To Hear The Rest of The Story?

Friends, we live in a world where photo-shopping and extreme editing is commonplace. The media does it masterfully and far too often we are guilty of doing the same. We will edit the facts in a heartbeat to paint a picture that presents us or our loved ones in a favorable light. We know better and it is high time that we did better.

We must seek the truth at all costs. There are always two sides to the story and at the end of the day we are usually too biased and too emotion driven to get to the truth on our own. We need the Lord and He has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us into ALL truth. (John 16:13)

So, I admonish you this morning, before you put your mouth or your pen on anyone, get all the facts and then get with the Holy Spirit to guide you into the truth of the matter. Ask Him to show you what you cannot see with your eyes or hear with your ears. You’ll be so glad you did.

It's Breakthrough Wednesday. So What Will You Do About It?

It's breakthrough Wednesday.

That's right, Friends and most of us are plagued with one little area of our brain where we are stuck on a thought that makes sense to nobody but us.

That one little thought is leading us to choices and behaviors that are wreaking havoc in our lives. We are irritated by everything and everybody by day and are restless by night. We'd like nothing better than to wring the neck of that culprit that is messing with our peace, yet we avoid looking in the mirror at all costs.

Be assured that no matter what it looks like, God wants in and our breakthrough depends on us exchanging that thought we are stuck on for a God-thought.(a truth from the Word of God)

The hard part is being willing to admit that the source of much of our difficulties may be us or rather a crusty way of thinking we won't let go.

If you find yourself here today start thanking God for a breakthrough in your brain.

When your thanksgiving causes you to get through His gates and into His courts ala Psalms 100:4 then ask the Lord where your thinking is off. Be still and hear what the Lord has to say.

Next, ask the Lord to forgive you for settling for the ratchet thought and to give you a replacement.
Keep the thanksgiving going as your brain digests this new way of thinking.

Be hopeful but patient for results and don't think that that old thought won't put up a fight. Keep pressing into the Lord and let Him help you every step of the way.

Finally, remember that your breakthrough is not the end it is the beginning, a new and glorious beginning, so go forth in the strength of the Lord and the power of His might.

An Open Letter to 'Sick' from A 'Had It Up to Here' Believer

Dear Sick,

Can you read? Or maybe you don’t understand the concept of “by His stripes we are healed”. So you show up when you’re not invited and you just make yourself at home and create all kind of havoc and you expect us to roll with that like we have no recourse?

I don’t think so Bud, this is God’s property and you know it.

Oh, oh oh I guess you think that because so many of us miss the mark when it comes to taking care of our bodies that you have a right to invade and take over? Is that it?

Now, now admittedly some of us do go for the foot-long when God says half a sandwich and some of us do just roll over and go back to sleep when God says get up and hit the gym. And yes I get that a whole bunch of us are faithful to the wheatgrass and kale and the 14 mile run a day, yet hold on for dear life to unforgiveness and anger and bitterness, fear and other deadly companions.

And yes some of us do try to self- diagnose and self-medicate or outright disobey the wisdom God gave Dr. Jenkins. Yes sometimes we who wear the name of Jesus are a hot mess and a motley crew but don’t get it twisted. We belong to One who loves us so much He took the stripes and gave His life so we would be healed.

I am calling you out and serving you notice that the field day you been having in the Body of Christ is about to cease and desist. I declare that this post is going viral and many will read, repent and begin to obey those once ignored unctions of the Holy Spirit as if their lives depended on it.

So, I hope you are ready for a whole slew of believers hearkening to the voice of the true and the living God like it says in Exodus 15:26. ‘Best you get to packing tonight!

(Isaiah 53:5, Isaiah 43:1)

Saturday, July 18, 2015

We pose, we front, we put on the mask, even sport a pasted on smile. Then faking fails, the boom is lowered, our world twirls out of control and we wonder where our God is.

Friends, He’s right there waiting for us, longing for us to slow our roll and give Him some time so He can remind us again that it’s man that looks at the outside appearance. Our God looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) Selah-- pause and think about it… and have a ‘getting in line with my divine design’ day!

P.S. Some on you are on overload and need to holler HELP right now. You cannot afford to wait for somebody to Take You to The King…you need to hitch up your prayer wagon and get to the King (the King of kings) yourself. Amen?

My Help Comes from the Lord, Anyway He Wants to Send It

Dear Lord,

Thank you that my help comes from you. (Psalm 121:2 & Philippians 4:19)
Thank you that it’s up to you WHO you send the help through.
You’re the Head, Lord we’re the body
Forgive us when we fail to follow you.

Forgive us for the times we rolled our eyes ‘cause the soup we needed came from Mindy Sue;
Lord, we just thought it would taste better if it came from Clara Lou.

And Lord forgive us the silent, sullen attitude when you sent Deacon Miles to drive our blind brother Hugh.
Our Help comes from you, Lord and we know that in our head,
Lord let that word travel to our hearts so we can rest in what You said.

And Lord, for those of us with trust issues from years and years ago, heal those damaged places so trust in you can smoothly flow.

And for those who’ve danced with disappointment so much they can’t see the help you bring,
I pray a double dose of healing until their hearts begin to sing.

This is my earnest prayer on this glorious Saturday;
Thank you for answering according to your will and in your special way.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen and Amen.

An Independence Day Prayer

Dear Lord, As our nation celebrates Independence Day let us remember that whether young or old, our independence should never drive us away from you or your word. We need you every hour Lord. Individually and collectively we need your wisdom, your guidance and most of all your love. Where else will we go for comfort in time of loss but to you, Lord? You inspired the Psalmist to write “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” (Psalm 33:12) Will we ever be that nation here in America? You inspired the recent addition of ‘under God’ to the Pledge of Allegiance—one nation under God. Have we become deaf to the very words we speak? Do we not know that ‘under God’ means God rule—that we should seek your will in every decision? And Lord, has our quest for freedom blinded us to the role we must play in bringing healing to our land? Lord, stir up the Body of Christ this week that we might humble ourselves, pray, seek your face and turn from our wicked ways so that you will indeed forgive our sins and heal the land. ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) Hear my prayer O Lord and open the spiritual eyes of all who read this post. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Cast or Carry: What Will You Choose?

1 Peter 5:7 Amplified Bible (AMP) 7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. It is no coincidence that the Lord inspired the author of this letter to use the word cast. As you apply this word to your life this week be sure to think like a fisherman. When a fisherman casts his rod or net, he does so with great expectation. He expects to reel in something good. When we cast our cares upon the Lord we too should do so with great expectation. We should cast our cares on the Lord and expect to reel in God’s peace. We can rest there believing that God’s got it all in control. Wondering about bait? Cast those cares and let your bait be a shout unto God with a voice of triumph, a hearty thanksgiving because you expect a victory. Do I need to say more?

I don’t want to just go to heaven, I want to make a difference along the way

It’s 2015 and the enemy of our souls has only changed his tune slightly since the Garden of Eden. In the Garden the tune was “don’t you want to be like God.” (Genesis 3:5) Now it’s, “You’re Right!” I had to ask myself, do I want to be right or righteous. The two are not always the same. Righteous is being in right standing with God…on His terms. Right is one person’s view of the facts and probably the most coveted position in a debate or argument. Do I want to be right or righteous? The answer is easy. Getting there is not. If this word finds you I highly recommend you do what I am about to do—get a sleeping bag and park it in the Throne Room for the week. I say this because pride and ego will show up when you least want them to and they need to be conquered. I am no match for them on my own but thanks be to God, my help cometh from the Lord. (Psalm 121:2) Is anybody else thankful for HELP this morning? # I don’t want to just go to heaven, I want to make a difference along the way

In God I Trust

Bumped into Isaiah 45:2 and the word that God would go before me and make the crooked places straight, level them. Lots of crooked places in this walk. Crooked places are challenges that seem insurmountable because it’s difficult to find your spiritual footing. You cannot see the outcome and you cannot move in anybody’s timing but God’s. Add to that that things are rarely as they seem. Deception is epidemic. My trust is in God and in God alone. Blessed Sunday to you

Operation Uplift: Have You Considered the Heart-Mouth Connection?

The heart is such a complex organ. It’s the seat of our emotions and houses every reaction we have ever felt—love, rejection, abandonment, frustration, joy, victory, grief, fear. What’s more, when the heart anticipates a situation on the horizon it revs its engine and the next thing we know our feelings are generously sprayed everywhere. Depending on how we are raised we can become experts at masking what the heart is really saying. We’ll be hurting on the inside and will grin and front like everything’s alright on the outside. Despite that deception, the words we speak are a reflection of the content of our hearts. An angry heart will speak angry words even if those words are colored with laughter or a quick ‘I was just playing.’ It stands to reason then that if our words are evil and mean and destructive and hurtful, then we would do well to examine our hearts. If you find yourself here then fear not. Simply ask the Lord to help you like David did in Psalm 139:23-24. Throw your hands up in the air and say, “search me Lord and if you find any offensive way in me then lead me in the way everlasting.” What an awesome God we serve!

Do You Want To Be A Grace Giver?

After yesterday I had to revisit Ephesians 4:29, especially the part about our words, our talk giving grace to those who hear. At first I was thinking, wouldn’t it be nice if once spoken we could delete or retract the words we spoke in error. Not possible. Won’t happen. But then I began to think, wouldn’t it be a so much more worthwhile pursuit to make our words a gift of grace to those who hear. Giving at its highest and best is thoughtful, loving and often requires great care. Grace is unmerited favor which means the receiver is neither deserving of nor can he or she do anything to get it. Imagine speaking words that are thoughtful, loving, and carefully chosen exquisitely wrapped with a label that says “ABSOLUTELY NO STRINGS ATTACHED”. In our humanity we are always skeptical of anything unconditional. But that’s just how the grace of God operates. So, how about we allow the divine in us to rise and reign and freely give that which we have been freely given.

I'm Hiding. What about you?

What is a refuge? A refuge is a hiding place, a safe place, a place you can run to in times of storm, distress or danger; a dwelling place, a place I can live in, a secure and safe place when storms come, doubts rise, and when clouds of fear, sorrow or disease try to overtake me. I am so thankful this morning to be able to rest in knowing that MY REFUGE IS NOT A WHAT BUT A WHO! God is my refuge and it just doesn't make sense to live anywhere else but in Him. So turn up your hearing aids this morning, my friends and be revived by the amplified Word in Psalm 46:1.

Two Words, One Scripture--Day 5

Friends, our thoughts are so connected to our spiritual and physical health that we would be wise to follow this scripture to the letter. Getting our thoughts to line up with this scripture will be a battle but with the help of the Lord and our refusal to give up, we can win. The very next time a thought pops up that is ratchet (tore up and stanky), search the Word and/or ask the Lord for a replacement thought. Do this until you change your mind. Now go forth and be renewed. Amen. #twowordsonescripture

Two Words, One Scripture--Day 4

I can’t imagine why anyone would half step when it comes to praising God. High praise is unconditional and does not depend on circumstances or feelings. High praise is your best sound to let the Lord and anyone else listening know that you appreciate Him.
It just makes sense to couple high praise with that two-edged sword also known as the Word of God. You get into and start working the Word and allowing the Word to work in your life, you can’t help but give God your best praise. It’s better than exciting to have your eyes opened to the truth about everything. Where else can you make one stop and get encouragement, direction, hope, instruction, inspiring stories, wisdom and a love letter with your name on it? That sword is described as two-edged because there is something in it for you and for somebody on your pathway too.
Friends, we may not know what 2015 may look like but it is mighty glorious to know that our God has given us keys to make our way sweet. Now somebody ought to comment Hallelujah!

# Two Words, One Scripture-Day Three

Friends, when we consistently put off until tomorrow what we could do today, we may be motivated by a deep need to be in control or we simply are afraid of the outcome of timely action.
Far too many of us had rocky beginnings and picked up bad habits without which we would not have survived. We could not be in control of who loved us or how well they took care of us etc, so we had to find a way to BE IN CONTROL of something. "They want me to move fast, but I'm going to do this my way!" Even when those survival habits like being last minute or always late cease to serve us well, we do it anyhow. Bad habits are hard to break, right?
Then too, we put off acting in a timely fashion because we have learned to fear the outcome. We put off going to the doctor or telling so and so the truth because we want to avoid the drama, the trauma, the rejection. Hmmmh! The outstanding news is that if we ask Him and obey what He says, the Lord will teach us to number our days. God will teach us to wisely count every moment and make every moment count. '
So, who's up for the challenge?

# Two Words One Scripture

Junk is in the eye of the beholder. Gunk is that slimy stuff that retards engine performance. It knocks and pings and makes you and everyone around you uncomfortable. Anything in your heart that is negatively affecting your ability to be and do all that the Lord is calling you to? Tell God you are ready to let that GUNK go and then let Him have His way. Now somebody holler help me Jesus!!!
