Ever wonder what the writer Paul meant in Romans 5:5 when
he said the Holy Spirit had spread God’s love abroad in our
heart. In my mind this love shedding abroad in our hearts is
much like what happens when a one year old is left alone to
eat chocolate birthday cake.
I remember many years ago attending a first birthday party
for a beautiful little girl. Her Mom set the little girl in front of a
slice of birthday cake and allowed her the freedom to do with
it as she pleased. The baby had a field day. She put both her
hands in it and moved it around on the plate with great
She then took her hands and began to spread the
chocolate frosting on her face, clothes, body, then the table,
then the sofa and eventually on everything and everybody
that came across her path. The baby squealed with delight
with every chocolate deposit and we all roared with laughter
as she transformed everything she touched.
For me this precious baby girl perfectly demonstrated what
we are to do with the love of Christ in our hearts---saturate
ourselves in it and then spread it on everything and
everybody that comes across our path.
As this Valentine Day comes to a close I challenge you to
daily leave your love print on every place, person and thing
you come in contact with.
